Here are some common questions we hear.

Who is energy for a cause?

energy for a cause Inc is an online energy marketplace that allows residential and business customers to shop for electricity and natural gas supply.

What is energy deregulation?

In the past, one utility provided the three components of your energy service: generation, transmission and distribution. Legislatures and the public utility commissions (PUC) of many states have created competition for electricity and natural gas supply. This allows consumers to choose their energy supplier, while the delivery of the energy is still regulated and is the responsibility of the local utility company.

Impact Model

What is a Benefit Corporation?
A benefit corporation is a new class of corporation that voluntarily meets different  standards of corporate purpose, accountability, and transparency.  Benefit Corporations: 1) have a corporate purpose to create a material positive impact on society and the environment; 2) are required to consider the impact of their decisions not only on shareholders but also on workers, community, and the environment; and 3) are required to make available to the public,  an annual benefit report that assesses their overall social and environmental performance against a third party standard.

Is my utility company okay with me switching?

Yes. In fact, the utility company promotes switching suppliers on their own websites and some even mention it on the bill they send you each month. Let the shopping begin 🙂

Does it cost anything to switch suppliers?

If you are currently being supplied by your utility company it will cost you nothing to switch to a new supplier. If you are currently with a supplier that is not your utility company, send us a copy of the contract you have with them and we will check if they have any early cancelation fees.  We are here to help.

How soon will I be switched to my new supplier?

This depends a lot on when you enroll and when your next meter read date is. The new supplier will typicaly begin to supply you energy between 30 to 90 days from the time you enroll on our site. Let us know if you don’t hear from your new supplier within 30 days by mail. Don’t worry, there won’t be any interuptions in service.

Who do I pay?

In most utility markets you will still receive only one bill from the utility company the same way as you do now. Some markets seperate supply charges and delivery charges. In this case you will receive a bill for the supply charges from your supplier and one bill from the utility for delivery charges.

Will I lose power when I switch?

No. The utility company will supply your power and continue to be there if your supplier was to go out of business.

Who do I call in case of an emergency?

If you have an emergency concerning your natural gas or electricty, call your utility company right away.
